Amy
Gorman's AGING ARTFULLY is a book profiling 12 San
Francisco Bay Area women aged 85-105 in the visual and performing
arts. Moreover, Greg Young's 32 minute documentary, Still
Kicking and Frances Kandl's CD "7 Songs of Women,"
which accompanies the book, further celebrate the abundant
lives of the women; painter, rug braider, pianist, dancer,
sculptor, ikebana artist, storyteller, actor, singer...
Illustrated
with 100 plus photos from the women's lives, AGING ARTFULLY
was inspired by Amy Gorman's ticking clock and Medicare eligibility.
"Woke up one morning, age was on my mind," she relates.
Over three years, Amy located a remarkable and diverse group
of SF Bay Area women living with zest even in the
ninth decade and beyond. AGING ARTFULLY unravels perceptions
and attitudes towards being old, and poignantly documents
that old age can be a time of creative expression and gratification
--a current surging field anticipating the aging of the Baby
Boomers.
